iss nanorocks on nanoracks
project description
ISS NanoRocks on NanoRacks is recipient of the Space Florida and NanoRacks ISS Research Competition. It recently flew on Space X-4 resupply mission and is currently functioning and performing experiments on the International Space Station. NanoRocks studies the low energy collisions between various particles in a vacuum and microgravity environments.
responsibilities
- Designed the initial design for payload presented in proposal
- Worked with payload from designing, building, and testing phases
- Performed trade studies on proper vacuum feedthroughs for evacuation of air
- Performed vacuum testing of particle trays
- Troubleshooting of all mechanical components to ensure seamless integration
- Vibration calculations to find proper k-value of springs needed for testing in 0-gravity
- Development of lighting system for entire payload
- Designed lock down system for launch to ensure safety of payload
- Designed and machined particle tray
